Dr. Myra Haney Singleton
Dr. Myra Haney Singleton.png

The youngest of six children born to the late Katherleen McQueen Haney and the late Samuel Haney, Sr., Myra was reared in Jedburg, South Carolina. She is an active member of Greater St. James AME Church of Summerville where the Reverend Robert China is interim pastor. Myra prioritizes working with initiatives focused on the empowerment of youth, women, and aspiring healthcare professionals. She has been an invited presenter at episcopal, conference, district, and local programs. Myra also enjoys supporting the music ministry of her husband, Dr. Wayne M. Singleton, who serves as the Music Director of Mother Emanuel AME Church.

Myra Haney Singleton hails from the Seventh Episcopal District under the leadership of Bishop James Levert Davis and Supervisor Mother Arelis Beevers Davis. At the 2025 Seventh Episcopal District Mid Year Conference, Myra confirmed her aspiration to serve the Connectional Women’s Missionary Society as First Vice President in 2027. Inspired by Romans 12:1, Myra’s life reflects a record of preparation, passion, and service.

Myra was elected to serve as the South Carolina Conference Branch Women’s Missionary Society (SCCB WMS) president. Amid the pandemic, she led the development of new programming, promoting recruitment strategies, and facilitated a sustainable partnership with the American Heart Association advancing the mission of wellness.

Myra’s journey to support the WMS legacy started when she received an invitation to help develop the Young Women’s Initiative (YWI), currently known as Young Adult Member (YAM), in the Seventh Episcopal District from the late Mother Lucinda Crawford Belin. Myra was engaged in developing the YWI brochure, resources, and programming to promote the mission of the WMS to young ladies ages 18-40. She enthusiastically serves as a mentor and role model for younger missionaries and facilitates leadership development.

Professionally, Myra has worked in higher education as an administrative leader for over twenty-five years and has dedicated much of her professional life to providing academic support and guidance to students. She developed recruitment and retention programs resulting in expanded services, sustainable outcomes, and has received national recognition. Myra is active in regional, state, and national organizations and has received numerous honors and awards.

Myra genuinely loves people and is passionate about improving human life. Most importantly, as she is called to serve, Myra loves the Lord with her whole heart.  One of her favorite scriptures is found in Galatians 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not.”
